Donate in honor of Genna and Nate

Thank you for considering honoring Genna and Nate and their upcoming marriage with a gift to the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington (HFL).

Genna joined the HFL Board of Directors at the end of 2019 and has shared her insight and wisdom with fellow board members and loan applicants. During her time on the board, HFL has lent more than $1.5 million, helping hundreds of people!

We welcome donations of any amount. Below, we have included a few common multiples of 18 in keeping with the Jewish tradition of symbolically giving the gift of “life” or luck. Each letter of the Hebrew alphabet has a numerical value. The letters that spell the hebrew word for "life," Chai (חי, usually pronounced like the English word “hi” or “high,”) sum to 18. Judaism is a religion that emphasizes the importance of life and the hope that supports it, so Jews will often give gifts of money in multiples of 18. This is also why you might hear the toast “L’Chaim!” at the wedding, which means, “To Life!”

If you prefer to donate via check, you can mail your donation to PO Box 2752, Silver Spring, MD 20915.

If you have any further questions about HFL's work or how you can support that work, please contact Shuli Tropp, Executive Director, at [email protected] or 301.859.0346.
