Housing Resources

Loans to Assist with Housing 

Both Covid emergency loans (up to $2,500) and traditional loans (up to $15,000) can be utilized to help with housing needs such as:
  • Security Deposits on a new residence
  • Bridge loans for those needing assistance before the federal/local aid arrives
  • A month or two of back rent
  • Utilities, including internet and other housing related costs
  • Moving expenses for those having to change residences​

Rental Assistance Resources

Over the past year, Congress has provided extensive funding for housing assistance due to Covid. All funding is being routed through state and local governments. In our area, programs are run at the county level in Maryland but mostly statewide in Virginia and DC. Please click the links below to the programs offered by your state or county.

Home Ownership Assistance

  • Borrowers should reach out to their mortgage servicers to discuss forbearance options
  • Maryland is offering a Homeowner Assistance Fund for those struggling to keep up with mortgage and other housing costs due to Covid-19 related financial hardship.
  • Consumer Protection Finance Bureau provides step-by-step guide to seeking assistance
  • DC has some funds to assist homeowners who don't qualify for relief from their mortgage servicer
  • The Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) is a new federal program to help homeowners impacted by COVID-19 catch up on mortgage and utility bills and pay other housing costs
  • HUD-certified housing counselors provide guidance to both homeowners and renters and can help navigate seeking relief​
